Our new September issue of Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting is out now!

If we cast our mind back to April, when Marie Tabarly triumphed in the Ocean Globe Race, it’s safe to say it’s been full steam ahead in the world of sailing ever since. With the excitement of Cowes Week and the Olympics filling July and August, it feels like it’s been quite the summer season… and it’s not over yet! Our new September issue of Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting delves right into the Olympics and the racing action, but it’s not all gold medals and professional sailors… after all, it’s summer in the northern hemisphere, which to us means cruising through the Med and exploring the pristine beaches of Turkey, Greece, or Italy – it’s all in the new September issue.

The New August Issue of Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting

We’re missing the sunshine, but the summer winds are here and its been a wild ride so far! With the new August issue you won’t miss a thing. From chartering and cruising ground inspiration in Greece and Turkey, to top-tips and guides, along with all the latest news and exclusive interviews from our favourite elite sailors, it’s quite clear the summer sailing season waits for no-one (or the sun).

The cover of the new August issue of Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting says it all… Its the fast and furious Jeanneau Sun Fast 30 OD. Our Editor Sam Jefferson took her out for a spin, he reports, designing an environmentally friendly offshore one design class is a big ask – but Jeanneau’s Sun Fast 30 OD may have cracked it… Its all in the new issue!

Big Wins

Even with the months flying by we haven’t forgotten Maiden’s triumph in the Ocean Globe Race. In the new issue of Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting, we’ve got an exclusive interview with her victorious skipper, Heather Thomas, just for you!

A Note from Editor Sam Jefferson

Who said summer sailing was all about gentle breezes? 2024 has certainly bucked the trend and Sailing Today with yachts and Yachting follows suit. First up, we look back at a storm tossed Round the Island Race and Peter Morton, skipper of winning yacht Notorious tells us how he turned a wild ride into victory. Sticking with amped up sailing, we take the new Jeanneau Sun Fast 30OD for a spin and enjoy the thrills and spills of sailing a stripped out racer designed for the many, not the few.

Slowing down to an altogether more sedate pace, we head for the tranquil waters of the Ionian where veteran sailor Nic Compton explores some of the more peaceful corners of this cruiser’s heaven. Meanwhile, Rod Heikell takes a look at how Homer’s Odyssey has shaped the cruising landscape of Greece and we also look at some un myth-able Greek anchorages. Closer to home, we head to the Scillies where intrepid contributor Tim Good opted to go for a summer cruise with his wide and one year old daughter. A Scilly idea? You can be the judge.

In addition, we have expert advice on the latest weather routing software plus the finest columnists in marine journalism including Rom Cunliffe, Andy Rice, Jess Lloyd-Mostyn and Paul Heiney.

The March 2021 issue of Sailing Today with Yachts & Yachting is on sale now at your local newsagent, or available through various subscription options via links below. Here’s a taste of what we have inside this month.

Our lead cover feature – ‘Solent delights’ – follows the trial of Mark and Nicky Green on their Cobra 850, Waterlilly. Respecting social distancing measures and grabbing time afloat while they could last summer, they managed to enjoy a memorable cruise around the Solent’s better and lesser known gems.

Moody DS41

Former magazine editor Sam Fortescue grabbed the chance to sail the new Moody DS41, a winner in our British Yachting Awards. The award showed how this much-loved brand is as strong as ever in the hands of distributors Inspiration Marine in the UK and Ireland, but Sam took a close look at how it all works on the water.

Rod Heikell writes an interesting article for this issue about cruising as a couple. Anyone who has sailed with their partner knows, this doesn’t always go quite as it is depicted on the stern on the Moody DS41 here! Rod’s advice is gentle and practical, revealing how he shares domestic tasks, runs watches and handles other onboard challenges together with wife Lu.

Spring is around the corner and fingers crossed we’ll be able to get to our boats and get afloat. With time on the water at a premium, you want the best and best value berth you can find. We sift through a few options.

The pandemic has had the effect of pushing up insurance premiums, but  you can still save money. We talk to brokers and include some useful tips from Craftinsure.

A change in propeller can have a dramatic effect on your boatspeed, fuel consumption and handling capabilities. We look at eight on the market.

Portishead Quay Marina

The Bristol Channel is famous for its fearsome tides, but it also offers access to some superb cruising grounds and welcoming havens. Our monthly Gul’s Eye series visits Portishead Quay Marina.

Brian and Karin Trautman

YouTube has no lack of sailing channels – blue water dreams turned into reality – often with useful advice and absorbing content. Our March issue looks at how easy it is to do this yourself and how exactly you can make it pay.

Every month we take a close look at three used boats on the market. This month we feature a Swan 44 from 1974, this mint-condition Belliure 41 from 1985 and a Tofinou 7 from 2008.

Our monthly books page is always a favourite. This month editor Sam Jefferson reviews two recent publications and one classic, the little known but hugely worthwhile Voyaging, by Captain James W Holmes. Holmes was a painter and the book is illustrated partly with paintings of the ships he sailed on.

We have almost 100 reviews of sailing books – modern and classic – right here!

POOLE, UK – JULY 06: Pip Hare sails her IMOCA 60 newly branded with sponsor Medallia on July 6th, 2020 in Poole, United Kingdom. (Photo by Richard Langdon)

Pip Hare is the toast of the sailing world as she heads into the north Atlantic in the Vendée Globe. Back when she was in the south, with Cape Horn ahead, we called the Poole sailor on Whatsapp for a chat about her impressive race so far.

23/01/21 – Auckland (NZL), 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada, PRADA Cup 2021 – Round Robin 3
Ineos Team UK, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team (Studio Borlenghi)

Millions of sailors are following the America’s Cup online (our websites have the latest daily) but the story of INEOS Team UK’s incredible comeback in the Prada Cup (the knock-out regatta that determines who races for the America’s Cup) bears closer inspection. Having lost all their races in December, Sir Ben Ainslie and crew then went on to win all their races in January. Our March issue tells the tale in detail.

We’ve all done it, even Emirates Team New Zealand helm Peter Burling! A bad start is never a good way to kick things off, but it doesn’t mean your race is over. Jon Emmett coaches you from the back of the fleet.

There is lots more to enjoy in the March issue of Sailing Today with Yachts & Yachting. We hope you enjoy it!
